Since the time of its inception in 1976, the activities of Rural Medicare society was not simply restricted among the four walls of its campus to provide primary and secondary level of health care. It was always on the move with important activities and events.  The goal of these activities were to further extend and improve the facilities of its healthcare for the poorer mass, to expand its services to the far flung    community in the form of health care camps, various specialty camps, making health awareness programs for them, running extension health centers, through its periodic publications etc.RMS also kept on helping many NGOs with similar ideology with various assistance. It organized academic activities for its consultants, participated in many national and international conferences. To develop a great bonding with the doctors, staffs, and the community and move as a family it organized various events time to time. The list of these activities and events make us proud and are truly enormous. Below are a list of some of the activities and event of last ten years in brief.

Activities

Poor patients Fund

The hospital runs a poor patient fund to sponsor or subsidize poor patients who visit our hospital. These patients are not able to afford even our meager charges. This fund receives donations from our well-wishers and friends who regularly contribute to this fund. We support our poor patients (both indoor and outdoor patients) from this fund for receiving antitubercular treatment, diagnostic tests, and many others. The total amount crosses almost 2lacs of rupees every year.

Holding medical and surgical camps 
Eye Camps

Regular free eye camp is organized periodically in rural areas of Delhi and adjoining areas of UP and Haryana under the supervision of Dr. Gopal, consultant Ophthalmologist. Every time around 300 to 400 patients are examined and surgery is conducted free of cost for those who require it for various ophthalmological problems. Medicines and spectacles are distributed free to the patients.

Obstetric and Gynecological camps

Under the aegis of Rural Medicare Society Dr. S.K.Basu with the team of anesthetists and OT assistants organized many such camps in Uttarakhand’s Nainital and Ranikhet district at village satoli in collaboration with Arohi, a voluntary organization. Similar camps were organized at village Piplia Kalan, Pali district of Rajasthan under the patronage of PG Foil’s Nanesh Shah Memorial hospital. Besides attending regular OPD patients, lots of Gynecological surgeries were performed in both places. Various office procedures and minor surgery like tubal ligation were taught to the local doctors and paramedics of those places. All these activities were entirely voluntary work, a part of our assistance to other organization without charging any fees

Multispecialty health check up camps

A multi specialty health check up camp was organized at Kabir Bhawan; Madangir New Delhi on 7th December 2008.Consultants of RMC volunteered their valuable services. About 600 patients were examined in this camp and were provided free medicines. Many of the patients were subsequently followed up

Free multi specialty health camp was organized in 2018 at Ma Karunamayi Ashram, village Saanp Ki Nagli, Sohna. About 1057 patients were examined in various specialties like medicine, Surgery, Gynae, ENT; eye, Orthopedic and dental dept. Free medicines were distributed to all the patients.

 Antenatal camp

A special antenatal camp was organized by Dr. Upasana Gupta to spread awareness among expectant mothers.

Extension centers for health care

Society use to run two extension centers for health care of villagers and stone quarry workers at Mandi and Rangpuri villages. Through these centers besides treating common ailments, patients suffering from chronic illness were treated with financial help and referring them to our main center for further management. Family planning advice, providing materials for family planning, vaccination for the children used to be provided free of cost. At present because of better facilities of health care provided by Govt agencies, Anganbari etc society had closed those extension centers. Society takes this opportunity to thank Mr. George Mathew of ISS, for providing financial help to run the Rangpuri center.

Paramedics training program 

Society has regular paramedic training program for its own paramedics as well as paramedics from other voluntary organisations involved in similar health care activities. In many occasions cost of the boarding and lodging of a paramedic from Assam, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh were waved and instead born by the Society. The aim of this training program was to train the paramedics as competent OT assistant, general nursing staff, and social workers for community health care providers.

Academic activities

Consultants of the Rural Medicare Centre hold periodic scientific clinical meeting among them and occasionally invites speakers from outside. The topic of discussion is always from the various disciplines of medicine either in the form of an interesting case presentation or discussion of some interesting common topics. All the consultants and resident doctors and occasionally doctors from other institutions take part in the meeting.

Mr. Chiranjiv Singh Mehta from Medicines Sans Frontiers screened a documentary on their work and spoke about how this organization is involved in providing medical services in different countries during the time of conflict and natural disaster. This film inspired our consultants and paramedical staff to provide sincere health care services to the mankind

News letter ‘Sandesh’

Hindi news letter Sandesh was released by Mr. Mathew Cherian, CEO, Help age India on 14th july,09. The news letter is a quarterly issue with health related information and information about hospital activities for our patients and general public. Through this news letter health awareness, health education, simple remedies for common ailments and preventive aspect of many illnesses are propagated.

Independence Day celebration

The hospital celebrates Independence Day every year by hoisting the National flag which is unfurled on the occasion by a local village leader (counselor or MLA) or sometimes by the President of our society in the presence of doctors, staff, and distinguished guests. This is followed by the singing of the National Anthem and distribution of sweets.

Christmas Celebration

Every year Christmas is celebrated with a great festive spirit and enthusiasm on 24th December. On this occasion, varieties of the cultural programs are being organized by our staff members. A tableau is made depicting the birth of Lord Jesus. The presence of Santa Claus makes this function livelier. Every year on this occasion the Christmas cake is presented by the President of our society to distribute among the staffs. Light refreshment is also served to all.

Annual Day Celebration

Society celebrates its annual day every year with a lot of enthusiasm. On most of the occasion, some important personalities like MLA, councilor, or other eminent persons from the Medical fraternity and the patron of our society are being invited as chief guests and Guests of honor. Members of our society and staff members with their families, consultants of our hospital, local community attend this celebration in large number. This is being marked by verities of cultural programs including, songs, dances, drama, and many others. The paramedical staff of our hospital plays a major role in organizing and participating in the cultural program. Members from Maa Karunamayi Ashram and Karuna Care foundation also take part in this celebration and contribute to the items of the cultural program. A painting competition for school children is also organized as a part of our Annual Day celebration and prizes are distributed on this occasion. Awards are also distributed to the staff participating in the cultural program. The program ends with refreshments for every guest.

Diwali celebration

Diwali celebration is a regular annual event at our hospital. Each year, besides a special bonus in terms of financial gift, society also organizes a special lunch for paramedical staff and doctors of the hospital.

Gurupurab celebration

A langar (community lunch) is organized every year for staff and doctors of the hospital on the occasion of Gurupurab. The langar is sponsored by Dr. DPS Toor. Some of the neighborhoods community also participates in this program.

Organizing spiritual talks

 To quench the thrust of the soul and to motivate its doctors and staffs for selfless service to the community, periodically the Society organized various spiritual talks by great personalities, spiritual teachers, and saints from many religious organizations.
